Taylor Swift, full Taylor Alison Swift. American singer/songwriter who's had great success with the tales she tells of her young heartbreak. Swift was a fan of music from a young age and she progressed quickly through roles in the children's theater to her first appearance before a crowd of thousands. As Swift sang The Star-Spangled Banner in front of the Philadelphia 76ers at a game at age 11. She was already creating songs. The next year she began playing guitar. Swift composed original music inspired by the country music of artists such as Shania Twain (now known as the Chicks), and Dixie Chicks. Her material was a reflection of Swift's experiences as a tween and the feeling of alienation. Swift's family moved to Tennessee from Pennsylvania when she was thirteen so she could be able to spend longer pursuing country music labels in Nashville.
